Despite the continual stream of advancements made in the fields of technology and science, we appear to be no closer to resolving the environmental and ecological issues that blight our world. Notwithstanding a significant global drive to reduce each individual’s carbon footprint and teach environmental responsibility, there remains a significant chasm between what citizens know and how they live their everyday lives.

With this in mind, the rise of the eco-friendly community is occurring at an ideal time for the world’s population, and provides them with viable tools to put their knowledge and environmental principles into practice. With a number of structures being built and planned across the nation of China, the country is taking significant steps towards easing its environmental concerns and laying the foundations for a prosperous and sustainable future.

The Eco-Friendly Community: Changing Attitudes and Values within Society

The fact that China is set to be the location of a series of eco-friendly communities is an interesting one, as the nation has an unusual ethos when it comes to environmentalism and sustainability. As the world’s largest economy and manufacturing hub, China is also one of the most polluted nations located anywhere across the globe, and also a significant source of carbon emissions. However, China’s buyers and consumers are not necessarily driven by their environmental conscience, with real estate experts claiming that citizens are more concerned with finances and their individual well-being.

With this in mind, it would be fair to question whether the development of eco-friendly communities is a viable solution for Chinese society, especially given the prevailing attitude and priorities of citizens. The communities have clearly been designed with a view to teaching residents environmental awareness so that they are encouraged to live a more sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle. Whether this is ultimately successful remains to be seen, but it is something that can only be measured over a sustained period of time.

The Bottom Line: What Can China Expect From its Eco-Friendly Communities?

The communities themselves will be self-sufficient and spread throughout China, with the biggest being located in Tianjin. Over 1,000 residents will move into this region over the course of the coming year, and the local government has set a target of reaching 350,000 residents by the year 2025. Given that the purpose of this and similar communities is to reduce carbon-emissions and improve energy efficiency, residents can expect contemporary settings which offer highly evolved processes in terms of recycling, waste disposal, and fuelling.

The commitment of the Chinese government to build more eco-friendly communities than any other nation is a clear indication of its changing priorities, and something that can have a significant and positive impact on future generations of citizens. Even the USA, which is at the forefront of environmental awareness, cannot match the level of Chinese investment into the development of sustainable communities, and this can only bode well for a vast population that requires encouragement to embrace the benefits of green living.

Other countries, including the UK, will be implementing the technique too so its pays to understand what is going on a global scale.
