Sacramento light rail


Cities must make public transportation clean, safe, reliable, technologically advanced and affordable. Otherwise, neglected rail and bus systems lead to divisions between the haves and have-nots and gain the reputation for crime, mentally unstable and homeless people, dirty trains and buses, not being reliable and other maladies that Sacramento and other transit systems in the United States have to deal with because of decades of disinvestment in public transit in favor of the private automobile and the streets and highways that are used by private cars and trucks.

Give Sacramento credit, the city is make a concerted effort to change the reputation of the light rail and bus system to bridge some of those divides. It isn't easy to get people feeling comfortable using public transit, particularly Californians, but again, if Sacramento can make its light rail system safe, clean, reliable, technologically advanced and affordable, in other words world class, than those skeptical of public transit will at least consider riding it and if they have a positive experience they will likely ride it again and ideally become a regular commuter.
