Photos: Wiehle-Reston East Metro Silver Line Station
After a series of delays and setbacks, the Metro Silver Line is finally set to open to the public on July 26th. Metro's newest line will include four new stations -- three in the Tysons area and the terminus near Reston Town Center. This is Phase One of what will eventually extend past Dulles International Airport to Loudoun County.
Here are pictures I took of the Wiehle-Reston East station while on a bike ride to Reston Town Center. The architecture is impressive and a massive departure from the rest of the Metro system. Compared to the rest of the Metro system, much of which was built in the 1970s, the new stations are sleek and modern and the colors are brighter and lighter. It is a big improvement from the dark, drab, brutalist design of the original Metro system.
The future of Metro is here and it is the Silver Line. Welcome to the next generation of the Washington Metro as the subway system boldly moves forward into the 21st Century.
